Mac DII players

I was having nasty HD chunking problems with DII on-line, especially at the start of a huge spawn-in battle or when entering new areas. I have 384 MB and a Voodoo3, so I'm not hurting for texture/bitmap caching room. I tried things like upping the memory parition, copying music to HD from CD, and even reading all the official Bliz Support stuff I could find about these problems. I couldn't bring myself to actually play in 640x480 after tasting the big screen :)

I found a partial solution in a comp.sys.mac.games... group posted by a supposed Bliz support guy: turn VM ON. Now I played a lot of FPS shooters on this machine and that's the one thing you never, never want to have to do. But go figure, I tried it out and reduced the memory partition back to it's nominal value (important as well) and things got a lot better. My standing FPS went up about 10 and the gameplay stutter (artificial lag) went way down in those two situations. My HD still chunks a lot, but it doesn't seem to affect the gameplay as badly as it did before.

I'm sure this isn't a help for everyone, but it does improve my game noticably.

    mine

    Darklord_CP

    and

    Darklord's_hc's

Yes, you do need the "_". Diablo won't let you use spaces.

note: I tend to only play hardcore characters. So the latter login is where you'll find me.
