I bought the game yesterday. Did the person who wrote all the in-game text and the manual forget about commas? Yeesh. 8)

    Anyway here are some questions:

In political view (I think that's what it's called), how come some provinces are yellow-coloured, some greyish, some green? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.

I tried playing Age of Exploration as Spain. I walked a guy into Grenada at the beginning. Why couldn't I annex Granada after I took out the army there? The manual says that you can't take over a foreign capital province unless it is the only province left. So does Granada have another province somewhere?

Speaking of which, is there a way to bring up a list that shows all the countries and what provinces they own?

When I try to load games, EU2 crashes. I can start new games and save them fine. Wassah?

Well, if you're looking at the political map it shows which provinces belong to which country. Yellow is Castille, grey is Argon, and green is Portugal.

If you were trying to annex Granada by selecting Annex from the diplomat screen, that's not how it's done. That's how you Diplo-Annex a country, and to do that they have to have been your vassle for 10 years, and have 195+ relations with you.

To annex a country you've taken over, like they say, the capitol has to be the only provice they have left. You use a diplomat to offer peace, then ask for tribute. When you offer peace, it will show you a bar with a percantage of how well the war is going in your favor. In order for them to accept a peace offer that will annex them the war has to be 100% in your favor, but if you meet the criteria for annexing someone (capital is their only province and you control it) then you'll be at 100%. Under the tribute screen you can ask for gold or provinces. If the capital is the only province it will be available. If they accept your peace offer, you will have annexed that country.

No, all you can do is switch to the political map and look around.

    Dunno, never had that happen.

Okay, it's not the political map because that mode makes sense (each nation has its own colour). I mean the "regular" view of the map. In that view, some of my (Spain's) provinces are yellow, some green, some sorta greyish...

    Ah! That makes more sense!

Bah, big missing feature IMO. Most strategy games allow this in some sort of way...
    Dunno, never had that happen.
Must be either a bug with the Mac version, or my copy, or something.

Thanks for answering the annexing question... that was a biggie.

    I think it's because they're Swedish. There are a lot of non-native English-speaker errors.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.
In the main view, the colors correspond, I believe, to the type of terrain -- open, forest, mountains, desert, swamp. But I can't confirm that.
Speaking of which, is there a way to bring up a list that shows
all the countries and what provinces they own?
That would be nice. But you can always tell which country owns a given province.

This is a known bug. You need a patch. Should be available through MacLedge or Inside Mac Games, or at Virtual Programming's site.

By the way, I've been playing for a while now, and I'm enjoying it, even though I understand only about 3/4 of what I'm doing.

Mori, if you have the answer to this question, I'd love to hear it. I want to vassalize a country. I have a royal marriage, and our relations are great, but I have to have a military alliance. Can't get it into the alliance, because it hates my ally England. So I think, well, hell, England's done nothing but get me introuble with France, so why do I need that alliance any more? But I can't break the alliance, and the game tell sme I don't have an alliance with England. What gives? (Anyhow, this is ancient history in my game. More of an academic question.)

I did some quick digging around the data files today. A lot is stored in text files... maybe it can be fixed without a code patch.

That makes sense. Now... what effect does each of those regions have on armies, tax collection, trade, ...?

Sweet, I just found it through IMG... thanks!

I'm about at the same place. Being able to load games will be very nice.

Between patched Moo3, EU2 and Myth 1.4... who can get any work done these days?!

As a long time EU2 player, I would encourage you to check out the EU2 forums at www.europa-universalis.com. Lots of interesting discussions and fun things to see there. =)
